Hive 2: October Tutorial

I'm Kaja, and I live in a small village on the border between three counties in the East Midlands of the UK with my husband and two youngest children.

When I joined stash bee I thought about what I might be asked to make, whether I would enjoy it, whether my skills would be challenged.  What I gave no thought to was what I would ask for when it was my turn.  Then, as my month approached I realised I had a slight problem, which was that I never make block-based quilts; it's just not how my brain works.

But I do like a challenge and enjoy starting with disparate bits and making something that holds them all together, so this month I would like you to make a block you like,  any block, as long as it's based on squares and/or triangles.  It doesn't need to be improv, or wonky, or abstract, though it can be it that's what you want to do.  I'd be happy with a simple 9 patch, an 8 point star, some flying geese, squares made out of HST's...

I don't mind what size, small  works just as well for me as big , don't have many do's or don'ts as regards fabric, but used a photo I like to get a starting point for colours.  No need to use Kona particularly, no need to stick exactly, or exclusively, to these colours - I wouldn't if I were starting from here, but it's somewhere to start.

My question this month is what quilters (with or without blogs) do you most admire and draw inspiration from?
