Hive 6, April Tutorial, 2016

It's me! It's me! It's all about me! As a little girl I was always told, nobody likes a show off, its not all about you. How differently children are brought up nowadays. And this month, I can say Me, Me, Me as I'm Queen Bee in Hive 6 for April.

I have decided to keep it simple. Big sigh of relief all round - For me writing the tutorial anyhow. I would like you to make me a plus block. I love these. I made a plus block quilt last year for my son and somehow it turned into the Swedish flag. These blocks  will be for my daughter, and hopefully they will turn into a plus quilt....

I would like to use low volume fabrics for the background. White solid is great, as is white on white print, texty print is great. Mostly white, off white, cream or very pale grey as a background.

For the "plus" I would like red. Any shade of red is ok, a little other colour is ok, so long as red is the predominant colour. Again, texty fabric, spotty, geometrics are all great. Your plus can be all one fabric or five different fabrics, whichever suits your stash best. If you don't fancy red, or don't have red then black is acceptable alternative, or dark grey.

Each of my squares measures 5". This is so you can make use of charm squares, if you wish.
Three rows of three squares. The sticky out bits of the plus (technical term) measure 2.5" each finished, as do the plain bits stuck on the end (another technical term). Cut each bit to 2.75" allowing the 1/4" seam allowance. Or cut slightly bigger and trim to size.

Sew the top row, then the middle, then the bottom.

Sew the rows together.

Travel to  the dark side. Where appropriate. With your iron.

Have Fun.

And with all the time you will have saved with this easy peasy lemon squeasy block, I want to set you a challenge. Lets get matey. I would like you to visit a fellow bee on her blog or on instagram. Lets get to know each other a bit more.
And check out Laura from our hive who won ribbons in Quilt Con. Well done Laura. Laura is @laurawestkong on instagram.

I took a sneaky peek at your tutorial and made your blocks when I made Katie's blocks. You should be receiving them any day now! :D I had a blast making them and can't wait to see the resulting quilt!

Very nice block Helen. I'm up next month and feeling the pressure.

Thanks for the shout-out, Helen! And also for the simple, but lovely block you chose. It's going to be a fabulous quilt! Now off to check my stash for red fabric. :-)
