Hive 2 April Tutorial - Churn Dash with Your Own Spice

                                             Churn Dash Block for April

Quilting friends, I have been so excited about the Stash Bee this year. We have had a great mix of color ways and patterns.

For this month, I thought a Churn Dash would be lots of fun.

We will make a 12.5 inch block using a dark, light and a square of your favorite novelty print. I would like to have a piece of each of your personalities. No need to square your blocks, I'll take care of that bit.

You Will Need

ONE 4.5 inch square

Your favorite novelty print

ONE 2.5x19 inch strip

&

TWO 5 inch squares

Light anything; white on white to cream with a print - must read light from 6 feet away.

Needs to be around 80% light (see examples below)

ONE 2.5x19 inch strip

&

TWO 5 inch squares

Dark anything; from solid black to navy to super dark purple.

Tone on tone is fine, small print is fine.

Needs to be 80% dark (see examples below)

Construction Instructions

Using 5 inch squares make FOUR Half Square Triangles using your preferred method. I use the drawn line method and square and trim my HST’s to 4.5 inches. Please press to the dark side.

Sew light and dark strips together, press to the dark side and sub cut FOUR 4.5 inch segments

Stare at your 4.5 inch novelty fabric and get the feels.

Layout block using the diagram and orientation below.

Or you could get super fancy and use an orphan block 4.5 inches square in place of your novelty fabric.
