March Block for Carolyn

Hi, it's Bianca!

I have to admit, this was my first time sewing geese.  It's kind of addicting, but for a struggling perfectionist like me, a little nerve wrecking!  I think it turned out pretty well, aside from a bit ( I hope not too much) of wonkiness.

I hope you like it Carolyn- I loved choosing fabrics for this!

My favorite quilt block right now is the flowering snowball and the disappearing hourglass.  I just love the way they look!

Just finished up my block for RobinSue and I am hoping the large text print I had will go ok with the prints everyone else used! This block is a lot of fun, and I cant wait to see her quilt put together!

Got it done in the nick of time! Getting ready to move really eats up a lot of time and energy!

Hello, I'm Heather from Quilts Actually, and I blog at QA Creations.  This month Carolyn asked for a  large flying geese block.

After this, I think I am flying goosed out for awhile, but I think she is going to end up with an amazing quilt!



Her question was what our favorite blocks are.  I think my favorite block is whatever I'm planning to work on next!  I love the potential of the not-yet-started project.

Here is my completed block for March for Amanda.
I have to tell you that I really love Fresh Lemon Quilts and I have been wanting to try this block for a long time. I love your colors that you chose, and I really LOVE how it turned out. I only regret that I did not have time to get more than one block completed for you.

I was torn about mixing solids with prints, so I decided to use all prints.

I hope you like it too, and I cannot wait to see them all together.

I started paper piecing last year, and I really like how it makes sure that all of my points line up perfectly. The thing I have found that helps me in assembling the completed squares is that I do not remover the paper until completed. I run a basting stitch around the outside of each square. Then when you put the four pieces together, they line up even better without any fabrics shifting.

 

You asked what place we would like to travel to. My one place that is on my bucket list is Australia. I imagine that life there must be so different than here in the States. I am fortunate enough to live near the ocean, but our oceans in Northern America are very salty, dark blue and cold. I want to swim near the great barrier reef and be amazed at how many creatures there are under those beautiful waters. I fear, though, that if I travel there, I will never want to come home.

I look forward to seeing the wonderful work for my block coming next month.

Hive 3 March Block

When I saw Carolyn's choice for March I was delighted.  The migration block looks fantastic and versatile.  The making of it was a real test of my piecing skills.  Look at all those seams!

 Getting this to turn out at 16.5" was a battle, in its heart it wanted to be 16". 

I was surprised that last month's choice of block being brown left me with lots of fabrics to choose from in my stash and this month's choice of Lime, Chartreuse, Teal and Turquoise left me struggling with only 1 fabric on hand for the turquoise.  Time to do some fabric shopping I think!

Carolyn asked us what out favourite block is.  Not sure about this one, probably the Dutch Rose aka Swoon, I guess.  It's one of those I've made more than once!

Hive 6 - Rocky Mountain Puzzle Block for Chelsea!

Spring is here...at least in the color of this months Bee block...'cause there is still a ton of snow outside my house.  

I made two blocks again, one for Chelsea and one for my Stash Bee sampler quilt I hope to put together at the end.

I really love the colors in these blocks....it put me in a happy mood!

Question of the month is If you could go back in time to any decade, which would it be?  If I had to, I think it would be the 80's because I have so many milestones in that decade and I'd love to relive them!

Hive 9 March block for Maureen

Angela here- Hi everybody!  I have to say that this might be one of my most favorite Stash Bee blocks ever.  But I think I may have said that before.  Anyway, thank you Maureen for the link to this tutorial!  I think I have a new project in my very own near future...  I hope you enjoy the block as much as I enjoyed making it.

Actually, I am writing at this very moment from a retreat at the Grand Oak in Scottsboro, AL, which has been a lot of fun.  Just some friends, fun, food and fabric. Here's the view from the balcony where we eat our meals- all prepared by Cindy- the hostess with the mostest.

Maureen's question is pretty hard, and of course, I am a bit of a pain and want to ask back "Which history?  Earth history?  World history?  American history?  My life history?"  Answers would vary greatly.  So, I will choose my life history.  Even though I was there, I think I would love to be a witness to the moment my husband asked me to be his wife.  Just so I could experience it again.

Hive 4 March Block for Amanda

Hello everyone! It's Diana again from Red Delicious Life and here is the block I made for Amanda. It's a paper pieced block that comes together very quickly and has a great visual impact. I've always been rather intimidated with paper piecing but with each project I get better and learn more. What I've learned on this project is to NOT stop sewing when you get to the seam allowance line. How did I not know that before? Well, I figured it out (finally!) with this project but I have to warn you Amanda that some of the outside edge seams are cutting it close.

I have to say - what I love most about this block is the colors that Amanda selected. I already had a bit of an obsession with Michael Miller's dim dots in aqua (the larger polka dot with white and teal dots) but the combination of it with the yellow and white has really inspired me. So much, in fact, that when it comes to my turn to be the hive queen, I plan on using these colors with one additional color. I can't wait. Thank you Amanda!

Now for her question for the month - if I could travel anywhere in the world, where would I go? That's really hard. I love traveling and have been fortunate to have gone many places. Some of my favorites include Italy and the UK. Still on my bucket list though are Australia, New Zealand, and Japan so I'd have to pick one of those.
