November Hive 5 Ribbon Star for Stephanie

Here's my November block for Stephanie. She requested a ribbon star a la MSQC in Autumn colors.  Great choice, Stephanie! I hope these color choices play well with the others you've received. It went in the mail today.

I have loved being a part of Hive 5 this year, ladies! You've made my first bee a great experience, and I'm looking forward to 2017!

Hive 7 - July block for Kristen

Greetings from the road!  I'm en route to my brothers wedding in Wisconsin and writing this on my phone so please excuse any errors!  

For my turn this month I'd love a scrappy Cross Plus block a la Badskirt Amy, But sized up to a 12" block with measurements provided by canoeridgecreations.

BUT follow cutting sizes from above photo!!

Fabric choices:

Keep it scrappy!

For the center cross - pinks, reds, oranges, orchids (non pastels please), same fabri for all pieces please

For edge of cross- Medium to dark gray solid or patterned, please use same fabric for all four rectangles

Background triangles - low volume - do not need to be the same fabric on each square

Branches of the X - blues (Aqua, teal, turquoise), greens (lime, citron, pear) nothing too dark (no navy or hunter green) or too pastel

Prefer modern fabrics, no novelty, no juvenile, think bright rainbow !

2015 HIVE 5 FINISH

I finished this a couple of months ago and finally took a picture (even though not the best) and wanted to share the finish quilt. This is from Hive 5 2015 month of October.  I absolutely love how this quilt came out and is one of my favorite. I just love the bright happy colors and so pleased with how it came out. I couldn't believe how easy and quick it went together. I put  newspaper print on the back and topped off the binding using a black and white striped fabric. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it...thanks so much to all that contributed blocks.

March block for Christina - Hive 9

Kelly here from Hive 9. Now this was a block I really enjoyed. It went super fast and was fun to put together. I actually finished it a few weeks ago but have been out of the country so I haven't had a chance to post it yet. I hope I didn't use too much pink for Christina. I have A LOT of pinks so it makes up most of what I have to work with.

Need to give this one final run under the iron, trim some threads and will pop it in the mail. Thank you for picking such a fun block.

Hive 1 Blocks for Heather

Wow am I pleased it's a leap year or what! I'm getting this one out the door by the skin of my teeth due to nothing going to plan over the last week lol

This block was a blast to make, I won't admit how many times I seam rippered the wrong seam though 0_o thankfully it was an easy fix.

Heather I hope you like the colours and it makes it to your door super quickly!

Finished 2015 Quilt

Finally...I can show you my finished 2015 Stash Bee quilt :)

I always wanted to have a string quilt and the bee provided the perfect mix for it!

As always, a few lessons were learned - #1, the next time I make a string quilt, I will use muslin as a foundation and not paper. It will provide stability and minimize frustration about paper choice, stitch length, etc. This will also make it easier for the long arm quilter as the top will not bubble as much!.

I named it "The Blood Ruby" - once I laid out all the blocks I realized that the quilt could use a focal point to calm it down some. So I pieced a ruby :)

It was quilted by the lovely Joanne Lendaro from Splitting Stitches with bubbles.

The back has one of my hand dyed pieces as a focal point but I also used different Konas and some left over blocks from the front.

I bound it in a black/white striped fabric to frame the 82" x 82" craziness.

2015 Hive 8 Finish.

This is Audrey from Hot Pink Quilts. I am FINALLY able to show you my quilt finish using blocks that last year's Hive 8 so generously made me. Isn't she pretty? I'm thrilled to be gifting this to my dad, even if it's taken me over a year to get 'er done!

Hive 2 - January Block for Karyn

Wow, what a cold snap! Hope everyone is staying safe and warm.

1. Name: Debbie Davis

2. Where you live: Glenpool, OK

3. Tell us about your family: I have one son. He is 27 and is a basketball coach/teacher for a high school in Tulsa, OK. I come from a family of 5 kids. We scattered to the winds in our younger days but now we have all resettled within 10 miles of each other. 

4. Tell us about your pets: No pets. I am never home, it wouldn't be fair.

5. How long have you been quilting? I started over 35 years ago but it has been an on again/off again type of love. I started back up after my son was born and have kept my sewing machine up ever since. I did take some time off when my mom passed away. This was something we use to do together and I just couldn't get back into the swing of things for awhile. BUT, I didn't take my machine down. :)

6. What crafts do you do other than quilting? Who has money for other crafts???

7. Fabric line you want to buy next: I never look at the end of the bolt. But I am wanting to make a red/white quilt so that will be my next purchase.

8. Preferred quilting method (FMQ, long arm, hand, etc.): Sending my quilt to a long armer. It is an art form and I leave it up to the professionals.

10. Favorite book: All time favorite is Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. My other favorite book is usually the next one I am going to read.

This is my first year with Stash Bee and I am excited to see will be coming next. This block really showed me where my stash weaknesses are but I loved making it!!

HIVE 4 2015 FINISHED QUILTS

This year was my first year doing the stash bee. I have really enjoyed making everyone blocks and getting out of my comfort zone. during my month I ask for  a criss cross scrappy block in either orange or blue. These blocks went into  quilts for my grandsons because their mom who had passed away loved orange and blue.  My hive went out of their  way and made extra blocks for me so that I did not have to add to many of my own. I would like to thank everyone from Hive 4 who made my blocks. I have attached the pictures below with my 2 grandson. Thanks again.

End of 2015, Start of 2016!

Hello all!

As today is December 1st, the 2015 round of the bee is now done -- if you have outstanding blocks, please get those made and mailed ASAP.

Today also marks the unofficial start of the 2016 round! I have sent out hive assignments to about half of the hives and will be sending out the hive assignments to the remaining hives later today or tomorrow.

2015 participants: if you are not participating in 2016, your blog permissions have been removed. Please email pics of your blocks to your Hive mama and Queen Bee.

The new 2016 participants are also being added as authors, so a gentle reminder is in order.

Do not post ANYTHING on the blog that is not a finished block, a finished quilt, or a Queen Bee's tutorial relating to the Stash Bee. Extemporaneous posts WILL be immediately deleted.

November Block for Laura Hive 3

Hi again! Here is Laura's block for November.  Her colors were right up my alley. I love pink! And have the others in scraps, too. Can't wait to see all the blocks in your finished quilt!  After making this block twice, I am thinking I might need to make a few for a quilt of my own.

So, I'm pretty far off from retirement, but I would love a small house by the water, maybe the bay, to enjoy sunsets. And of course it would have an amazing sewing room. I love living living on the east coast on the Jersey Shore.

October block for Bianca Hive 3

Hi all! I know I've been a slacker on posting. But guess what, new computer! Now it gets easier again.

Here is Bianca 's block   I changed my mind on the blue a few times and I am so glad I used this one. This turned out really fun. I can't wait to see it all together. 

Bianca asked what our favorite thing to watch while quilting. I love Project Runway and Face Off as creative shows. Others are Doctor Who and syfy shows. I do love to listen to books on cd or MP3, too.
