Hive 3 February Tutorial "Cluck Cluck Sew Heart Block"

Hello Hive 3! My name is Shari Butler, known as Doohikey Designs. You can find me on all social media under that name, and I am currently redoing my blog and website.

Since I got February, I decided I needed a valentines quilt full of love! I loved the tutorial from Cluck Cluck Sew Multiple Hearts. I'm going to have you make the size block: 8" block. You can view her tutorial here or just read below. Her quilt is cute too!

Here is the heart block in red's and pink's! I am not going to have you add borders, because I don't know how I will be setting the sashing until I get all blocks. I might even make various sizes depending on what fabrics you use.

The background needs to be white, I used clean white by Riley Blake Designs.

Fabric colors I would like to see is red's, pink's, and aqua. You can have the prints mixed with color. Even if it has bits of green or other colors I'm good as long as it has that modern/vintage feel. I would prefer no solids or batiks. I would like to see different scales in the prints. I love fabrics and designers that you can be inspired by for fabric selection are and not limited too: Lil Red by Stacey Lest Hsu, Lecien Fabric or Kokka has sweet vintage and floral fabrics, Camille and Bonnie has lovely prints, Tasha Noel, Nana Company always selects beautiful prints, Pam Kitty Morning/Lake House has fun valentine prints, Anything with fun hearts, valentine theme would be fun to incorporate. Sweetwater and Doodlebug has some fun prints this year. I'm just helping you give direction in the tastes I love in fabric. If you have questions feel free to ask. I even love Heather Ross, Heather Bailey, Sandi Henderson and more. I just did a few hearts to give you different looks I'm seeking for in this quilt to come.

I am wanting some modern and vintage prints mixed together. It's just how I roll!

On to the tutorial or you can click the link above to go to Cluck Cluck Sew's Tutorial!

You will want to cut:
Cut 2 - 4 1/2" x 8 1/2" Print Fabric
Cut 2 - 4 1/2" Background Fabric Square White
Cut 4 - 1 1/2" Background Square White

Example of cut fabrics.

Draw diagonal lines on the wrong side of each of your squares.

Place them on the print strips, sew along the lines.

Trim corners.

 and press seams out!

Sew on diagonal line.

 Trim corners.

 Press seams out!

Sew the two sides together!

Voila! A heart block is born! Don't worry about trimming them.
I will do that when I get all the blocks and add sashing!

This will be such a fun quilt and I'm way excited for all of you to be involved! Again, I'm not sure how I will be setting this quilt. I may add different size hearts to finish it. I can't wait to get to know all of you in 2016! Happy heart making in February!

Perfect block for February! Your aqua color - like the Bonnie and Camille aquas or more teal?
