January 2015 Hive 3

I'm Debbie and I have finished my first ever Stash Bee block and now I'm trying to post this thing to Blogger - I'm like the little engine that could - "I think I can...I think I can..."  I live in Houston with my husband of 30 years and my dogs, a Sheltie and a Yorkie that thinks he is a Great Dane...we let him believe that.  We have 3 kids in various stages of employment/law school/undergraduate so they are in and out - the back door is revolving!

We were asked to make a bookshelf block with a theme - what fun! I had such trouble deciding but "A Bugs Life" won out because of the fun fussy cut bug jars!

My foray into quilting was a little odd.  I started sewing when I was about 7 - I wanted a Barbie sewing machine for Christmas by my grandma and mom said I would learn on their machines.  So no pink machine for me but I did learn to sew - not quilt, however.  My daughter was in grad school and living with us in 2013 and wanted to go to QuiltCon so we took a roadtrip - there I saw the most amazing quilts - I was hooked!  I made lots of blocks and played around with mini's for a few months before I jumped into a quilt.  I'd been sewing for 45 years so it wasn't a big leap for me.

This is the baby quilt I made for my niece's baby - it was a boy and they are big Detroit Tiger fans so I used those colors.  I learned an awful lot from this quilt!

I don't blog yet but that is one of my goals for the year.  I am active on Flickr and Instagram as Mumziepooh.  I am looking forward to this Bee this year!

Debbie, great block! Is that a echino/kokka print with the bee? I had some deer that I was thinking about using, but it was the linen mix, so I wasn't sure.
Love the backyard baby applique :)

Yes - it is echino/kokka - I am crazy about it - I know it's a linen mix but it's small and it will be all quilted with the rest so that will stabilize it for the wash. It will be fine!
