Hive 9 - February Block

Better late than never! :) Since I saw the block post I KNEW I had to use Tula Pink's "Saltwater" collection because the colors (and the theme!) were perfect :) Then it took me a month to make it happen... Lol... I am actually going to remake it so all the patterns are "right side up" but this is the same pattern and colors I will use so you get the idea :)
Tula Pink's "Saltwater" Collection by Free Spirit Fabrics

As to the quilt that I have made that holds the most meaning, I would agree with many of the ladies that my first quilt stands out amongst the rest :) My mother has quilted since before I was born so I grew up sitting next to her as she sewed, reading books and listening to the comforting hum of her sewing machine speeding through holiday dresses and cuddly quilts. But, even with three daughters, none of us ever caught the quilting bug... until I was pregnant with our second child :) We didn't find out if we were having a boy or a girl during the pregnancy so it was hard for me to make or buy items in preparation for the little one.
I decided that I wanted to make something from the heart for the sweet baby in my belly so over Christmas 2012, while visiting my mother, I started on my first quilt :)
Fabric from Moda's "Salt Air" Collection

I chose the Moda collection "Salt Air" because it was bright and cheerful without being overly girlie or boyish :) The pattern I chose was on the Moda website (the one and only pattern I have ever followed :P) and was for a car seat quilt that tied to the handles of the baby's infant car seat.
It took WAY too long (read, months!! lol) to make this quilt, and it's far from perfect, but to me it represents the love of a mother for their child, even before that baby is in her arms. With every stitch, all I could think about was how excited I was about the upcoming arrival of our second little one. :) Anelle arrived in March 2013 and, due to our mercurial Colorado weather, she was able to use the quilt on and off throughout her first year for snow in June and sunshine in January! :)
She will be two next month and now her baby dolls enjoy this quilt on a daily basis,
and this piece continues to warm my heart.

Yes, isn't it wonderful how a quilt can touch our daily lives even as we grow and change with the seasons!
