Hi everyone - this block will be somewhat reminiscent of Ruth's from last month! Here is a link to the free Moda pattern this is based on: https://modafabrics.com/
You will be creating 4 mini blocks. Each mini-block will have 3 fabrics. My blocks will be smaller than the pattern linked above and have 5 strips instead of 7.
Finished will be 7.5x7.5 when I sew them together
I’d love for each block to have its own color story, but you can repeat a color story within your 4 blocks if you want. I just want a fun mash up of colors in the final product. I love fabrics that are modern, vintage, unexpected contrast, and please no baticks or commercial characters. I’m not a big fan of brown so will probably avoid that color block. As I was putting together my pulls, I would pick one dominant fabric and then 2 other supporting fabrics. I don't really care which order you use the "main" vs "supporting", if it is part of the 3 bar or 2 bar, etc.
You can reuse fabrics if you like, but please keep each block within the color story you chose (so you could do 4 different color blocks if you want, or repeat fabrics and have a few of one color, a few of another). Some examples of my pull below, and more towards the end! Again use any color you want as the main as I want a really colorful finished product.
I found that you could easily fit 2 small strips from a charm pack piece and any size strip from a jelly roll, so great scrapbuster if you have randoms of those laying around.
Cut as follows, for each mini- block:
- Three 2”x8” strips in first fabric
- Two 2”x 4.25” strips in second fabric
- Two 2”x4.25” strips in third fabric
Lay the fabric out as shown:
Sew the two smaller rectangles together and press seams open:
Then sew all 5 strips together. I find it works best to pin them even though you're sewing in a straight line. Press seams open:
