"Squeak"

Did you hear that awful noise? That would be me, Linda in Hive 3, squeaking in under the wire for the month of April. And don't blame our Hive Mama - she gently reminded us. I just knew I had the blocks finished so I put the message out of mind. The parts about mailing and posting? Not so much. Post Office is closed so mine will be in the mail on Monday.

Hive Three's Queen, Shauna chose a really striking color combination for her block. Hope these purples work for her nephew's quilt (he's a lucky guy!).
As I said, my blocks were done early and I crashed a couple hives. Really, who could resist the gnomes and trees for Jennifer in Hive 9 ? My printer would only print giant patterns for the gnomes so I made trees instead.
My stash is badly depleted but I did have some red to make a Cross block for Hive 6's Helen. I suspect it'll take a while to get to her in Ireland. I did, however, take her advice and added more Bee members to my Instagram feed.
The pinwheel that Andrea in Hive 7 chose looks difficult but really isn't. Especially if you pay attention - so I MIGHT have had to take out one seam. Can't wait to see how all her color choices come together!
Another quilt I can't wait to see finished is  Tori's from Hive 1. I love the way the stars pop on the bright color palette she chose.
So. Lesson learned. I will not only start sewing early for the next round, I'll get them online and in the mail early as well! Linda, Hive 3

Hive 7 May Block Tutorial

Hive 7 May Block Tutorial

EDIT : To the ladies who made it with the wrong measurements that I had initially please dont make another bloc - just send me the BITS and I will fix it. Sorry

Hi there , my name is Michelle and I am the queen for May
For May I wold like a real quick and easy block, seems really simple but when put together creates a great effect.

I have always loved crosses and the greek cross must be my favourite
The colours are easy and most of you will have these in your stash. (please no batiks)
White for background, Dark blue for corners (solids or tone on tones ) and teal/aqua (no batiks and any print)  for centre.
I am planning to make one cross with a bright pink centre to be the focus point

Please disregard the measurements on the picture

The instructions on picture is incorrect - should be 2.5 not 2
From the white you will need the following (solid white, no tone on tone please)
2 - 5x5 squares
4 - 2.5x4.5 rectangles

For the dark blue corners ( no batiks and please use only tone on tone if using prints)
2 - 5x5 squares

For the cross in teal or aqua (any print no batiks please)
1 - 4.5x4.5 square
4 - 2.5x4.5 rectangles

First you will need to make four HST using the blues and white (5x5 squares) to finish off as a 4.5 square
Sew your teal and white rectangles together (2.5x4.5 rectangles)

Iron and lay out as above
Sew together and TADA !!!
Easy easy - time to go finish something else.
Final block size should be 12.5 and please iron away from white

Hive 9 - April Blocks for Jennifer from Martina

Here are my improv incognito gnome and tree blocks. See, what had happened was....I read improv and was sold. I went ahead one tree at a time and for whatever reason, I was thinking tree but cutting/sewing gnome legs...until it suddenly hit me "darn, trees are only supposed to have one stump." That's when the incognito gnome was born ;)

Jennifer, they are free cut and improv; I did not square up the blocks but left them as is for you to size them whichever way you want. I'm not sure if you like the idea of a gnome hiding as a tree or not, but in case you don't, I am not offended if those blocks won't make it into your quilt.

April Hive 5 Block for Queen Lyssa

Here ya go, Queen Lyssa.  I will pop this Purse Strings block into the mail for you.  I enjoyed making it and think your colorway and pattern will yield a beautiful quilt!

April block- Hive 7

So this one had me a little nervous after reading everyone's comments but in the end it comes together so quick and easy I'm thinking of putting together one for myself!

Trickiest part was figuring out how to trim the block which resulted in one slightly under 11 inches so I'm sending you two :-)

Hive 4 April finish

I really like improv quilting, but I don't often give myself the opportunity to just let go and create this way. Though there was some structure to these "X marks the spot" blocks, I enjoyed putting them together without specific measuring and cutting.

I was pretty pleased with myself because I actually got them finished pretty early in the month, but then I forgot to put them in the mail until the very end. Can't wait to see this project put together!

Hive 7, April block for Andrea

Quick to put together. Will definitely try it again! Although trimming took more brain power than expected😉 Enjoy. Can't wait to them all together,
Erika

Hive 3

I've been working on the block for this month for a while. I made the first block.  It had too much white in the black. I didn't like it.  I then made another and didn't like quality of black. It came out a little small. Vacation got in the middle so could not do another.  Finally made the third yesterday.  I am sending you all three.  I hope you can use them some where.
It was a great block and can't wait to see it

Christmas in April for Jennifer Hive 9

Fun little blocks!  Sorry it took to the end of the month - but they are adorable and I think you'll like them!

Can't wait to see this all put together!!!

I hope you like them!

Hive 2, April block for Lanakila

You should say it is easy........
First problem = what color!!!!!!!!
Yellow-Orange because 27 April is our Kingsday, Violet is also a royal color.
The Blue-Violet was a bit difficult to find.
I really used my color wheel a lot.
Sometimes it is very handy to have a lot of quilting tools.
This is the first time for me to work this way.
Have to say, had fun making it.
Answers to the questions are.......
one = kingsday and two = I like to look a lot on pinterest at longarm quilting [link] because recently I am a proud owner of the berninaQ24 [link].
Lanakila, hope you like this block?
It is going on the mail today.
Warm regards, Marga
Have a nice day

April Hive 7 Block for Andrea

I finished Andrea's block this morning and got it in the mail today. The sewing was fairly easy, but the trimming was nerve-wracking! The perspective is off a little in my photo.

I really enjoyed sewing with these colors.

Happy quilting!

Mary

Hive 4 Xs

Here are my Xs!  I apparently can't read my own notes so the big was is one size bigger than it should be, but better bigger than smaller!  They're a bit wavy, but that should quilt out fine...and I don't know how to get rid of the slight wave.

April blocks for Helen

I had so much fun making Plus blocks for Helen that I chose a plus block of my own for when I'm Queen Bee in June.
These are on their way to you, Helen.
xoxo Laura

Block for Tori

Bright & cheerful...hope you like it :)

Hive 7- Finished block for Andrea

Hi All,

Here is my finished April block.  I had a little trouble with this one and it took 3 attempts to get it right.  I ended up adding a 1/2 inch to the neutral pieces to give myself more room for trimming. My blocks will go out to Andrea in the mail today.  I hope she likes them.

Now don't you be worrying about my failed attempts.  I was able to trim the blocks to 10 inches and made myself a little table topper.

Hope everyone had a great April.  See you in May.

Tisha

Hive 1 block sent

I had a lot of fun making this block for our lovely queen this month! It is on its way and I hope she loves it!

Hive 4 April Block

So glad Jennifer said wonky was ok in the instructions she gave us for these X marks the spot blocks!
I had to search for blues and thought these co-ordinated well.  Getting the x to match in the centre was tricky enough - hope these are ok for you!

Hive 1 April block

Coming Wednesday is Kingsday here in the Netherlands and everything and everybody will be orange, so I thought orange would be a good choice for this block 😊

April Hive 5 block for Lyssa

Happy Saturday, Bees! There were so many cute blocks this month, and I would have loved to try them all.  Unfortunately we've had a crazy busy month here, and I had to settle for ONLY making Lyssa's awesome purse strings block in navy, mustard & gray.  Can I just say that I LOVE this color scheme so much and now of course I "need" to make something with it!!  You all get that, right?

Here is your block, Lyssa.  Hope you like it as much as I do!  I'll drop it by the post office on Monday morning along with Cyndi's (hive 7) gate crash block. :)

Happy Quilting Y'all.

Crashing Hive 9 for Jenny

You know what they say about Idle Hands.... so since I'm queen bee of Hive 1 this month I decided to make some blocks for someone else.  And Jenny's block caught my eye... I love paper piecing!

Each gnome is a little different and I love them.   Sure hope you can use them!  I hope to see them all put together.

Hive 1 - April block

This block was fast and easy, in fact, I made it the day the tutorial came out.  However....... I got a little busy and didn't get it photographed or packaged for the mail.  Not a good thing.  I decided to iron it...Oooops!

My two lovely fur companions distracted me and I left the iron sitting on the block.  I could never send something in this condition to anyone, so, back to the stash.

Finding a variety of solid, blenders or tone on tone was not easy in my stash.  I'm a print girl.  After lots of searching I managed to find another color to work with.

Lightly ironed, no starch, an almost perfect square.  Sending in a day or two.  Hope this fits in with the other blocks!

April block for Jennifer

Hi everyone!

I hope Spring is treating you all well!  This block really challenged me - I'm not good with improv!

I hope this will work!

Shauna's Block for Hive 3

Shauna is making a quilt for her nephew and asked for tic tac toe blocks in purple. black and pale grey

As they were so quick and easy to make up I have sent off two.

These were sent out the first week of the month but as I've been away on holiday I've only now had the chance to show them.
It's my turn to be Queen Bee next month and I'm still torn between two blocks.
