Hive #3 January Block

Hello everyone, I'm Martina from Austria, who lives in France with her U.S. Marine (ooorah!) :)

Ruth asked us to make bookshelf blocks with a little deco applique of something you'd find on a bookshelf. Here is mine:

Animal Bookshelf Block

As a mom of three I have plenty of animal themed fabric, so I decided to go with an animal section. At first I wanted to applique a kokeshi doll (we lived in Okinawa and it is our favorite place) but it wasn't large enough, so I went with the bird instead. I hope Ruth likes it!

Ruth also asked us about our first quilt. I did not start quilting until a little over a year ago and my first quilt was a small quilt kit from Craftsy. I cannot find it right this moment but I still have my second quilt, which was a Christmas (2013) gift for my oldest daughter. I played it safe the first few times and stuck with Craftsy kits.
