Hive 5 September Tutorial - Which Witch House!

Happy September!

I'm Laura, from Minnesota, and this is my first bee! It's been fun creating for all of you and I hope you feel the same this month.

For years I've thought about making a Halloween-themed quilt, but usually not until about October 15th! So I've decided to take advantage of a bee to finally get one underway.

I have designed a pattern for a happily haunted witch house that has seven variations -- one for each of the 7 witches of "Witchaven"! Choose which Witch you want to build a house for. There will be repeats and that is okay -- some of the witches will have "second homes"!

The block uses simple nine-patch construction, and instructions for the individual patches are in the pattern. You can strip piece or fussy-cut your fabric–whatever suits your fancy!  Here are a couple examples of different block arrangements:

Fabric Requirements and palette suggestions are in the pattern. For the house and background, the fabric requests are pretty straight forward: dark grey, brown, or black for the house, neutral blender or textured solid for the background. You are also asked to use a Halloween fabric for the windows and doors.

I don't have a lot of Halloween fabric to do a pull, so I've made a digital pull here, showing the types of fabric that will work and some that won't. (Further specifications are in the pattern.) If you don't have Halloween fabric, please don't feel the need to buy! You can use a blender or textured solid in the preferred palette. (And batiks are fine!)

Please use fabrics in a small or medium print, in colors that are more natural. Think pumpkin orange, not construction zone orange! Gold versus bright yellow, off-white versus bright white, etc. Whimsical patterns appreciated!

Please avoid super bright colors and glow-in-the-darks. Please stay away from super cute patterns and licensed characters. Thank you!

Hopefully this will be a fun block for you to create. If you find yourself thinking of another variation, please go ahead and make it! Please reach out via IG with any questions, etc! Thank you so much for sewing for me!
