March Hive 8 Tutorial

Hi, This is Amanda from Hive 8. This is my second year in Stash bee. Last year I asked for a paper pieced block and this was the end result. It is one of my favorite quilts and lives on my bed now.

This year I would like to make a version of Faith Jones Scrap Plus quilt that she wrote a tutorial for Bernina's We All Sew.

Here is the link below. When following the directions, scroll down to the section that starts the Block Instructions on the tutorial.

http://weallsew.com/scrap-plus-quilt-along-week-1/

For my block I would like the scrappy section to be the same color family of either Kelly Green, Navy or Mint Green. I am ok with you using solids. As you see my stash is mainly solids and  blenders.

For the background pieces please use a solid white.

Here are some photos of my pull:
Kelly Green- Carkai (Carolyn Friedlander), Pearl Bracelets in Parrot, RJR Kelly Green solid
Mint Green- Studio stitch, cotton and steel basics, and Kona Aloe
Navy- Cotton and steel sprinkle, Navy solid, Domino dot navy.

I ended up only using 3 fabrics for my scrappy block.
I cut one 1.5 inch strip from each of the 3 fabrics and then subcut them so they were 3 x 1.5 inches.
From the white you need to cut (4) 5.5 x 5.5 squares and (1) 2.5 x 2.5 square

When making the scrappy strips I sewed 6 of the pieces together and then trimmed down to 2.5 x 5.5 as per her instructions. You need to make 4 of these.

Then you just sew the rows together and your block should finish at 12.5 x 12.5
Here are examples of each color.

  1. Do you want us to stick to three fabrics for the color pieces as well?

  8. Cool, thanks, I don't know why that link turned out as wonky as a modern block. I thought the fabric is beyond perfect, I just wanted to make sure, getting started soon!

  9. There are several services that let you change a long URL to shorter one. The one I usually use is http://tinyurl.com So the short URL to the fabric zaney linked to is: http://tinyurl.com/jmrwk4h You can even name the link so there is a word instead of the jmrwk4h but I couldn't think what to make it.
