I emerged yesterday from another one of my frenzied head-long dashes to finish a quilt by a deadline -- whew, made it!!
So I spent today getting some other small commitments met. This is the Hunter's Star block I made for Heather, the Queen Bee of Hive 7 for January. This is my first on-line block swapping adventure but I belonged to a group in my quilt shop for over 10 years and have some great quilts made from the blocks those gals made for me, so I'm looking forward to our group's year together!
I have never pressed seams open for piecing but gave it a try since Heather requested it -- it worked out but seems like extra work to me. I've pieced for over 35 years so have lots of experience matching intersections with seams pressed to one side. I have to confess I'm puzzled as to what is the advantage of pressing the seams open and will be happy to listen to anyone's ideas about it.
My favorite home cooked meal these days would have to be roasted pork loin with roasted potatoes and a spinach salad -- what ever happened to T-bone steak?
I'm looking forward to seeing how all of our blocks fit together in Heather's quilt!!

It might be psychological, but I found pressing the seams open avoided some bulk and made lining things up easier on this block, even though I do not normally do it.
ReplyDeleteI think Heather will be happy with everyone's neat points!
I feel silly because I must have overlooked the "press the seams open" instruction. Oops.
ReplyDeleteYour block is beautiful. I am loving her quilt.
@dq I missed that part too, oops.
ReplyDeleteNo big deal either way ladies! Mostly I was trying to even out the bulk on some seams. Sometimes they were really thick and other times they weren't so much depending on how I oriented the smaller units.
ReplyDeleteThis is certainly a beautiful block, Mary!
