Hi Ladies!
I'm Sara, I have to say that figuring out what block I was going to request was the hardest thing EVER!!! I had probably 7 different ideas that I wanted then finally decided on a version of my first idea.
Some of you may know that I am engaged to be married. I have wanted a quilt to commemorate this event for a while. I have decided that instead of a sign in book I am going to ask each of my guests to sign a quilt block then make it into a fabulous quilt. So, what I'm asking each of you to do is make the signature blocks for my friends and family to sign. Since these will be super simple and on the smaller side I'm actually going to ask you each to make 5 blocks each (I welcome more if you're willing to make them!) I would like 4 blocks left blank in the center and I'd like each of you to sign the 5th block. I would like your name, city and state or country and any well wishes you'd like to include. I plan to have a block labeling that the quilt was made by the Stash Bee so I ask you to only put the information listed above on the signature block.
On to the block. I'm only going to list the items needed for one block, just multiply by 5. I'd like very bright cheerful colors that are mainly tone on tone or "blender" fabrics.
1 - 5.5 x 5.5 Kona white square
2 - 1.5 x 5.5 rectangle
2 - 1.5 x 7.5 rectangle
Sew the two smaller rectangles to the square and press like so:
Then add the remaining rectangles like so:
Please press seams to the colored side. Blocks should finish to 7.5 x 7.5 inches square, trim as needed.
Easy Peasy Lemon Squeazy!
Thank you all so much in advance. You have all done lovely work for each of the Queen Bee's and I am so excited to see all the fun fabrics and colors that will make up this quilt.
-Sara

Hive #3 May Block
Ok here is my block! I may finish another one or two by the time i get it in the mail. I won't be able to mail it tomorrow as my son is graduating and I will just be too busy!! If I make any more I will post pics!! This was fun. Stars a little tricky!
For Jamie
So sorry it took so long to do this Jamie, it took a while for me to find my sewing machine after my move. I had fun with this block, hope its what you wanted! -Sara
Evelyn's June Block for Hive #3
I chose an extra easy block so you can make it in a hurry and have plenty of time for summer fun. The pattern and instructions can also be found at quilterscache.com. Click on blocks by size--12" and scroll down to Mr. Roosevelt's Necktie. Please make this block with a white, cream or light tan background and use any color (print or solid) for the tie.
Cut six 3 1/2" colored squares and eight 3 1/2" light squares. The colored squares can be all one color or six different ones.
Cut one 4" colored and one 4" light square. Cut each of these 4" squares on the diagonal. With a light and dark triangle right sides together, sew a 1/4" seam on the diagonal side. Repeat with remaining triangles. Press seams toward the colored triangles and trim blocks to 3 1/2".
Sew squares together into four rows as pictured:
Sew rows together and press block. It should measure 12 1/2".
Happy sewing and thanks a bunch.

Hive #2 May Block {On Time!}
Here it is, my block is on time this month, I figured I'd better get more organized this time around, before I get kicked out of this quilting bee! I raided my scraps for brights that really offset the Kona Coal {in spite of its blue appearance in the picture, I assure you, it is quite gray!}. I hope you like it!

Hive 2 ~ May Blocks For Helen
I'm finally posting pictures of our May blocks for Helen! Mary & I are a little late in posting because of our trip to Spring Quilt Market. And then a road trip to Texas to visit Vicki & her family.
I hope you like them!
For some reason I cannot get Mary's block to photograph very well. The grey looks weird. They'll be in the mail Tuesday.
Judy
I hope you like them!

Come What May Update
Got 3 more blocks in the mail, so I added those to the first I sewed together. It’s looking good! This photo is a little better than the last. You can really tell the true Kona charcoal color in the photos.
I am thinking I will quilt right inside each triangle with purple thread and then in the solid charcoal do some pebble quilting, which I’ve never attempted before.

May block for hive 2
It took me a while to get around to deciding on fabrics for this one, but once I did putting this block together was a cinch. It's really vibrant in person, the photo doesn't do it justice.
Hope you like it! It will be in the mail with Rebeckah's as soon as her's is finished (and probably a goody or two for you as well since it will be so late in getting to you).

Hive # 1 May blocks for Jamie Lee
This block has been so difficult for me. Not really sure why, other than for some reason I just couldn't wrap my brain around How to get the triangles onto the kona squares! Which is just crazy, you would think that if I can sew up a paper pieced star this should be a cake walk!
This was my first attempt :( Not pretty at all,and it is approximately 11 1/4 x 15 1/2 ish! So I emailed Jamie Lee,Help! She is such a sweetie, she was quick to reply, and she emailed me step by step instructions. I still had a really hard time with it,but my second block is a little better.
This is my second attempt,it measures 12 1/2 x almost 16 3/4 inches. It is also backwards, but Jamie Lee you did say, that would be okay. So I hope it is!

I'm calling this quilt "Come What May" because my month is May and I'm just going to sew them together as I receive them in the mail. Thanks so much Jenelle, Miki, and Tanya...my photo doesn't do them justice! They look so pretty in person!

Hive #4
Here you go, Lynn! These were fun blocks to make, but a bit of a challenge for my stash. I realized that I need to step up my game in the cream and black fabrics. I put these in the mail today.
I can't wait to see everyone's blocks all together.
Have a great Friday!
Candace
Hive #4 Blocks
My mom has been great about doing my blocks the last couple of months while I couldn't so this month I got to do hers. Lynn, these are Laura's blocks and will be in the mail from Australia tomorrow or Monday. Hope you like them. I love doing HSTs! I blogged about making them over at SeaSew.

May Blocks
Finished these up last weekend and popping them in the mail today. I love any kind of star pattern! Here are Nancy's blocks for Hive #3:
These will look great all together. I can't wait to see the finished quilt!
Next are Helen's blocks for Hive #2:
I love wonky stars! One of these days I will make some for myself. I don't know the names of any of these fabrics I used since I pulled charms from a recent charm swap I was in. That pile has been so handy for me! If you have never been in a fabric swap--find one. It's a great way to build up scraps for projects like these without spending a fortune on fq's.
Hope you like your blocks ladies! :)

orange star
Here's my block for Nancy. This is a great block choice--I'm looking forward to seeing it assembled. I made a mostly black and white quilt a few years ago, in honor of my black and white dog who died too young. Some of these fabrics (especially the one that looks like fur) are leftover from that. I mailed the block yesterday.
Hive #1 Jamie's Block
Hopefully this is what it is supposed to be! One of my sections ended up being sort of wide. :D I really have trouble with the wonkies, but the more I do them the better I get.... I think. ;)

Challenging my stash
It turns out that I like my black solid, or with white. Finding fabrics for this was tough - I'm afraid a lot of the blacks have a white pattern on them and the off-whites are more beige-y. I hope they're ok!

Hive #2, May block
Well, finally the charcoal Kona arrived, today! So I have done a block quickly. I am not quite sure it is what you are after, so if I am missing the point, please tell me, and I will try again.
The charcoal is a really rich grey, and sets off the other colours really well. I am just not sure what constitutes a 'modern' print. So many of the new prints are quite retro in feel, or variations on a traditional idea.
Anyway, I went through my stash- which, for a stash busting bee, seems to be growing and not shrinking- and came up with these, rainbow colours, and varied prints.
So, what do you think?
I really quite like wonky stars, They are simple in concept, but just tricksy enough to be interesting. I only had to unpick two seams and redo them.
Now back to costumes!

Finally Hive #2 April and May done
It took a long time and it was hard to make it, but the April block is done. Thanks a lot for waiting so long and thanks to Sunni for helping.
And I also made the Wonky Star or I made one. I will make an other one :)
edit: I am sorry! I just saw that this will be the wrong colors, so I made a new star. It will be shipped the next days and I hope you like them ...

Hive # 4 - May Block for Lynn
This one was great fun, the colours were very much in my comfort zone, although accurate half square triangles were not! I did my best, honest, so I hope you are happy with the result. Thanks for a really interesting and satisfying block. All the best, Pauline.
