Hive #3 March Block

Here is my block. Have fun. If you don't have batiks, please use a small pattern or blender that will read as a solid as I have.
Here is the template to use. It's too big, so use the inner line on it. Thanks.

  1. Hello Debbie.....I read this ,,,went away and had a panic attack! THEN I put the paper bag over my head ...pulled up my big girl pants... and read it again!!

I have a few questions if thats OK?
    1. what size are you "expecting" the finished block to come out?
2.how many blocks do you want?
3.I dont have a printer at the moment so can I have a clue as to the size of the petal/leaf? It looks to be about 4x2 ins ?
5.do you want a signature block for the back/..... if so do you want any or all of these
    -your name
    -my name
    -my location
    -the date
    -the hive #
6.do you want scraps of the fabric used in the block and petal/leaf.

    OK! worn out now!!
I hope I have not driven you to distraction and migraine! I just like to be sure xx

Im sure it will be wonderful xx

  2. Is there a specific way you want the petal appliqued? Can't wait to get started.

  3. The blocks finished will be 6 1/4" square. 1 is fine but if you want to send more I wouldn't mind.
Signiture blocks would be great and that info is perfect. I don't need the scraps but thanks.
The petal is 2 3/4" in the center that's open. 1 1/2" at the tip where it cones to a point for the center of the block. 3 3/4" long.
I'm looking forward to this too.
As for the stitch any one you feel most comfortable with will be fine. I will be embellishing the center of these blocks when I have 4 sewn together.

  4. This will be fun! I don't have any batiks in my stash so off to my LQS for some FQ's. I can't wait for the final quilt after you have embelished it!!

  5. Ohh fun! I don't have any batiks either, but it's a good thing I live less than 2 minutes from my LQS :)

  8. Looks like fun! I've not done a whole lot of applique, so I'm glad to have the challenge.
I wanted to confirm that the widest width of the petal ends up 2-3/4". When I printed out the template, it was 3-3/4" top to bottom, but the width was off by about 1/4".

  9. Yes those dimensions for the petal are correct. As for the address on the home page there's a line that says hive 3 addresses it supposed to have them there I will check to be sure mines there.

  10. Yes the address is on the home page under Hive 3 addresses.
I'm glad you get to experience something new. I like appliqué myself I do it quite a bit.

  12. Working on this now...hm, my block came up too small too--will try again! Anyhow, I'm guessing from the demo that you want the lighter green on the outside, in which case I got carried away and forgot that, anyhow. Back to the cutting table for me!

  13. I don't mind where the lighter green is. Whichever way you have it is fine.

  15. ok, I finished my block but it was only 6" square. What could I have done wrong? I dont want to start until I get some advice because this is the 3rd one I've attempted. The first, I used what I had on hand and the strips just weren't long enough to cut the triangle to make the block. The 2nd attempt I accidentally put the dark fabric on the outside, cuz' my daughter is watching tv in my studio and I got distracted. HELP!!

    1. Oh yes. I used 1/4". I followed someone elses advice and made outside strips wider and trimmed down. I made two more. I eill send the extra blocks as well as another which only came out to 6 1/4 x 6 1/8.

  16. Did you use 1/4" seam allowance? But send the one you made it will be fine.

  17. Ahh! I'm way behind, but I promise to make my block tonight.

  18. Just finished mine and it came out 6" square and I don't see how it could come out any other size. What did I do wrong?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I see what happened now. My center strip (the dark one) is only 1 3/4" after beeing sewn together. When I was cutting the strips at a 45 degree angle, I cut to the point and didn't leave a seam allowance. Duh. Back to the sewing room.

  20. I'm sorry I guess next time I will have to make clearer directions. I'm in hive 4 so I will be sure whatever block I do I make sure it's easier to do. I hate giving you guys trouble.

  21. Im sorry i havent finished mine yet. I have gotten extrenely frustrated as NONE of my measurements match. I just rwprinted the petal template & measured it ( the smalker one right?) and it comes out to only 3 1/2 long and 2 1/4 wide at widest part. Am i supposed to use inside smaller one or not? I can just enlarge it to correct size youve requested but I want to clarify. I see thst u confirmed it already previously but the fact that i havent been able to get the same neasurements u requested on anything yet has been tough. So sorry. I just want to be sure I make it how you want and dont understand what I am doing wrong. I've never had this problem before.
