January 2012 Block

Forgive me! I feel like the kid that just walked into class late and everyone turned around to stare! I wanted this to be ready before today.

Happy New Year!!
Are you ready for some Stash Bee Fun?!

My block for January 2012 is called the "Tree of Life!"

There are so many ways to make this! I am going to give you some general guidelines to follow, but just go with it! You have plenty of room to improv and make it your own. Which is what it's all about at Stash Bee!

You will need:
12.5x12.5 square of Kona White (prewashed)
scraps

You may also need:
stabilizer
fusible web
These are not necessary, but you may find them useful.

I used Heat n Bond and drew a crazy trunk shape. I ironed the trunk onto my 12.5" block and then added scrappy leaves.

Guidelines:

  1. Please 1 tree per block.
  2. No swings in the tree. I'm saving that for the center block. You can add any other items, like birds, birdhouses, squirrels or nothing at all!
  3. Even if you adhere using Heat n Bond, please sew it down, too.
  4. Sew the leaves or trees down anyway you like. Raw edges, satin stitch, decorative stitches are all great.
I need 22 blocks to complete my quilt. (2 down) If you feel inspired, I would love an additional block.

For my center block, I would love to include a few scraps from each tree block. Please send me 2-3 small scraps that you use to make your tree.

Sum it up:
1-2 12.5" blocks
2-3 small scraps that you used in your tree block

  5. Jamie recommended I try joining this bee (it's one of my new years resolutions to have a go at a bee, and when I followed the link and found it was Sunni I thought yippeee!!), but I don't have any of the white so would have to wait to order it, and my sewing machine is just going in for service.... so I just thought I would check when the deadline is... and maybe I will have to do the next one, otherwise I will be the naughty one with the late homework which is not a good start for my first bee.. What do you reckon? x

  6. Hey Sunni! I love this block. Question... I went to order Kona White from FQS, and they only had bleach white. Is that the same? http://www.fatquartershop.com/store/stores_app/Browse_Item_Details.asp?Shopper_id=279312211219112793&Store_id=499&page_id=23&Item_ID=50205&Parent_Ids=

  7. OK - I have ordered my kona white.... should be here in 3 - 5 days. I have just sent my sewing machine to the menders (slight disadvantage not having a sewing machine!), and been cutting leaves out all afternoon.... will try and put something on the flicker group x
