Hive 1 - April Block
May, hive 2
These blocks were easy to make. But my iron had a hissy fit and splurted on one of them. . I propose to send it anyway, because you will wash the quilt, and I think it will wash out. Is that ok? Please?
I also thought, I should leave them un trimmed, because if they get trimmed too neat, and your 6" is bigger than mine, that may not work? Is this ok?

May Hive 2 Block
Hi everyone! I am so excited to be the Queen Bee for the month of May and have chosen a block I think is very cute and very easy to make.
Name, etc: I’m Bri, and I live in central Oklahoma in a rural area with my husband, daughter, and two silly dogs who keep us smiling. Barlie is a black pug and Hampton is a boxer/mastiff mix.
Hardest quilt thing you ever made? I tend to steer clear of hard things; however, I have been making some of the Farmer’s Wife blocks with a swap group on the About.com quilt forum. So far, the blocks I have done haven’t been too hard but I know I’m going to get there. I am kind of looking forward to the challenge… LOL…
Favorite dessert food? I love CHOCOLATE! By itself, with caramel, with nuts, with whipped cream….anything chocolate…yummmmmy.
Last time you laughed really hard and what was so funny? My daughter and I love looking at dog pictures on the Internet – Pinterest, blogs, etc. There are some great ones – dog shaming, dogs wearing clothes, just adorable and sooooo funny!
Day job? I work in IT, and that’s all I have to say about that. The quilting is so much more fun to talk about…
Do you remember the first thing you ever sewed? I can remember an embroidery project. I think I was 9 or 10 because we had just moved from the city to the country. I also remember reading the Little House on the Prairie books in 4th grade and our teacher having us sew together little 9 patches….that’s my favorite childhood sewing memory….
Life philosophy? I had to write a mission statement in a college class a few years ago, and it boiled down to ‘Inspire Optimism’. I believe everyone is capable of anything they set their mind to. Sometimes, they just need to be reminded…
The block I chose for this month is super cute. I first made it a few years ago in an Oklahoma City Modern Quilt Guild Bee.
You can find the tutorial for the Asterisk block here on the Selvage Blog.
I would like the block(s) made in USA patriotic colors – red, white and blue. The fabrics can have other colors in them if that’s all you have in your stash, I would just like for them to read ‘red or blue’, but I won’t turn anything away. J Please use Kona White for the asterisk. The blocks end up 6” unfinished. Make as few or as many as you like. Thank you!!!!

Hive 1 - The Pippi Gang
Just popping in quickly to show you the Pippi blocks all pieced together - don't they look stunning? I am so thrilled to bits. Thank you all so so so much.
Now, I need your tips and advice for how to quilt this one?? Remember I am still a novice and so straight lines are the best I can do. I was thinking of doing straight lines through the squares across and up and down the quilt (if that makes sense). But I would be grateful for your suggestions and ideas.

April Trees for Hive 1
These were a fun one to play with. Once I actually sat down and started on them, they came together quickly. Great tutorial--easy to follow. Thanks. I didn't practice on paper, but I did lay out the strips over the block to get an idea of where to cut. These will go out in the mail today or tomorrow. One for me and another as an angel block this month :) Enjoy!

Did I miss an email with addresses or are we waiting for a new google doc.? I will go check my junk mail folder and make sure nothing went there but I never check it so it will take me a while. :D

Hive 1 March blocks
Sorry for the tardiness. My hubby has been having some health problems and since he is super healthy and never, ever gets ill the last month and a half have been very nerve wracking and busy running to doctors and hospitals and stuff. Anyway, we think we've got him squared away now so hopefully I can get back on my regularly scheduled, never late roll with blocks and things! Hope you like them! They'll be mailed Monday.
EDIT: I need Emily's mailing address! :D So these will be in the mail as soon as I get that. If you want you can email it to me at quilty @ fairpoint (dot) net

Hive #1 - April - for Jo (Twinkle Toes) - Improvised Trees
Hi guys!
Firstly a HUGE apology for the lateness!
Initially I'd forgotten that I was April - still thought I was August, then when I had realised that (mid March(!)), I thought April started this weekend, as Easter was the end of March - doh!!
Had meant to post yesterday, but ended up in A&E yesterday afternoon with severe pain in my side and have endured the joy of kidney stones - I would NOT wish that on anyone! Trust me - rid the world of nuclear weapons, just have the threat of kidney stones!!!
Hey ho - here now!!
So about me:
I'm Twinkle Toes - or Jo Onions in real life, yes that is my surname, yes I can make you cry, etc... and yes I kept my maiden name when I got married (I like the unusualness of it!)
I live in a lovely little village called Harbury on the outskirts of Warwick / Leamington Spa in the UK. Just the opposite side of the motorway to Shakespeares birth town of Stratford on Avon - for those not in the UK, literally in the middle of the UK. We have lived here for 12 years, but are still considered newcomers ;o)
I live with my hubby and two child substitutes (Phoenix and Bilbo (Billy Bobs)) Both 12 year old black cats. Bilbo has only been with us 2 weeks as we adopted him after having to have Phoenix's brother put to sleep a few weeks ago :o( She/ we were missing him, so we got her someone else to torment!
Me and the hubby have been together nearly 14 years - but only tied the knot a couple of years ago - and typically it snowed!
My favourite dessert changes by the month. After going to The Pudding club a few weeks ago - I'm off puddings and am really into cheese and biscuits at the mo!
In real life I'm an Engineering Programme Manager in Automotive - basically I manage new vehicle programmes for an automotive supplier - keeps me out of mischief and no two days are even the same!
I learnt to sew when VERY VERY VERY little. My Mom and Nan both sewed, knitted etc, so didn't have a choice really! Most Saturdays I would spend at my Nan's and I still have the very first piece of embroidery I did at the age of three! I've sewed all my life and had my first sewing machine for Christmas when I was 19 - but only started quilting 3 years ago.
My life philospohy is - "Live life and each day to the full as you may not be here tomorrow"
Right - onto my block - Improvised Trees!
A friend showed me how to do these a few weeks ago on a retreat, and I thought it was perfect for a Bee block!
This is the first tutorial I have written and it's rather picture heavy - so have put a PDF on google - so hopefully you can download it: Improvised Trees
If you spot any errors - please let me know.
They are addictive - so if you want to make more than one feel free, but I'm happy with one. All I ask is solids only please and bright colours (They don't have to be tree colours!)
Have fun!
