Here you go Emily! Thanks for posting early. I can't believe I'm going to be mailing you a block on the 1st of the month.
I did change the strip to 2.5" and only needed one strip per color.

Hive 2 March for Jan Roberts - Correction
I want to apologize for the corrections. I totally forgot March is my month and I posted the original notice in a hurry and there were some errors that I have now corrected. I would like everyone to make a scrappy star block similar to the one pictured below I borrowed the photo from Laura V's blog). Here is the tutorial. I love bright, text, dots. This block has been a favorite of mine for a while.
Please use Kona white for the star and any colors for the blocks. You can put the star in any position on the block you'd like. You can make the block one color or mix it up. Please make me 1 block since it is a larger one.
Here is a little info about me....
Name? Jan Roberts
Where do you live? I live in the central valley of California, Modesto.
Family Status? Married (41 years) with 6 children; 2 biological boys and 4 adopted daughters (from U.S., India and Korea). I have 3 granddaughters.
Hardest quilt thing you ever made (would you make it again?) Paper piecing was the most difficult for me. I tried a couple years ago and just couldn't get the hang of it. I tried it again last year and now I love it. I am amazed at the perfect points and small areas that can be added to blocks that are paper pieced. I have so many paper pieced blocks that were put away that I decided this year it is my goal to put them all into finished quilts. So far, 2 down, 1 in process and 5 to go.
Favorite dessert food? Pecan pie.
Last time you laughed really hard (and what was so funny)? My 10 month old granddaughter is funny! She keeps us in stitches with her antics.
What is your Day Job? I retired from Stanislaus County as an Executive Secretary 13 years ago. I went right into a job share with a medical group that I was familiar with through my previous job. I work 3 days a week for a group of Family Practice physicians that teach resident physicians. I love having two weekdays to spend crafting and sewing.
When did you learn to sew? I started sewing with embroidery when I was 7. Then I moved on to crocheting and knitting and was introduced to sewing in high school. I have been sewing ever since.
Do you remember the first thing you ever sewed? Yep, it was a A-line dress when I was a sophomore in high school.
Life Philosophy? Love the Lord, love people and serve with all your heart.

Hive 1 March for Emily
Hey everyone, I have a really nice quick simple block design for you this month.
I would like you to make me a 12.5" (unfinished) churn dash block.
Please use 2 different prints for each block, no solids, please pick bright, bold modern colours and prints. Please no older style fabrics or muggy colours or pastels. I love the quilt my friend Laura made and this will give you an idea of the colours and style of prints I love.
I am a big fan of bright, geometric, dotty and text prints. Please make me 2 blocks (or more if you are having fun and want to carry on!) in different fabrics.
I have popped together a really quick tutorial for anyone who hasn't made a churn dash before.
Cut:
Print 1: 2.5"x18" rectangle
two 5" squares
Print 2: 2.5"x18" rectangle
two 5" squares
one 4.5" square
Sew the two long rectangles together and then cut into 4.5" strips. Sew the 5" squares together to make 4.5" trimmed HST.
Layout the churn dash and sew unit together
I hope you all have fun, let me know if you have any problems!

Pippi for Tanya hive #1
I followed the directions until the shoes and the block border. I added shoes which I think is ok but I did not read the directions on just keeping the border to two colors on the 2 1/2" squares. Sorry Tanya. I can take the border off and redo it correctly. Just let me know.

Here are all the blocks from Hive 3 January, laid out in no particular order. (The purples aren't showing up as well in the photo as they do in real life; it looks more gray here.) Thanks Hive 3 gals! :)

Hive 1--Pippi Block
Here is my Pippi. I had some marmalade from another small project and it called out to me again for this one. My own little ginger loves the pink and flowers, so it reminded me of her :) This is the first time that I attempted any kind of improv, and I think it turned out OK. Thanks once again for taking me outside my comfort zone. Hope you like!

Hive 1, February Block for Tanya
Hi Tanya,
I hope you don't mind that I took a little license with your Pippi Block. She'll go in the mail tomorrow. She was very easy and fun to make. I hope you like her.

Hive 2 Blocks for Lynn
Hi Lynn! Here are your two blocks. Home they are "bright" enough. I seem to have more soft colors than bright colors... The wonky star looks like a white background, but it is blue. Thanks for the great blocks! I will pop them in the mail this week.

Hive 3 Blocks for Kat
Hi Kat - here are your blocks.I made two out of the same fabric but varied the "waves". They are bigger than you wanted so you can trim away! Thanks for choosing this block. I have never made it before so it was great to learn something new! I will put these in the mail this week.

Pippi Longstalking block
Even though I think this is the cutest block,it sure did give me a lot of problems! I guess mostly since it is only one of a couple of improv blocks I have ever done. So sorry but this Pippi is barefoot, hope that is alright.
She will be in the mail by tomorrow :0)

hive 3 bargello for Kat
My photography skills are "not so much" at present, but here are my blocks for Kat. They look a lot better in person. I admit that I've never been drawn to bargello quilts, but I really enjoyed making these blocks, and learning the technique. Thanks for choosing it, Kat! I really want to see this quilt when it all comes together.

February Hive #3 - Modern Bargello for Kat
Well I made all four and didn't realize until I started to post them to Flickr that I didn't follow your directions correctly Kat. I wrote down that you wanted blocks at least 13-1/2" x 7-1/2" and realize now it was 13-1/2" by at least 7-1/2". My blocks are all different sizes and none are exactly 13-1/2" x whatever. I'm so sorry! I'll be dropping them into the mail to you next week and you can decide how you'd like to trim or whatever to them. :0/
Take care!
