Stained Glass Block for Kristy Lou

This will be in the mail tomorrow. It was a fun and easy block to make.

P.S. For some reason my photo ended up a little blotchy. It looks good in person though. :)

Stained Glass Block

I also just wanted to say how much I have enjoyed sewing with the ladies in Hive #1!

This past month (July) will be my last month in the bee. I will be embarking on some exciting new changes in my personal life and I feel that it will be best for me to bow out now and allow another quilter to join the group. Thanks so much for letting me stitch along with you and best of luck with the fun months ahead!

Blocks for Jennie

Hello Stash Bee-ers!

Here is the block I made for Jennie, the July Queen Bee for hive #2.

I actually made these a week or so ago but didn't like the pictures I took, so this morning I took a few more and liked how they turned out so I was finally able to post.

July Stash Bee Block
I used mostly 30's reproduction prints from my stash and loved the way it turned out.  The pinks and golds look great with the blue color Jennie chose for the star in the middle.

Jennie actually wrote up the tutorials we used to make the blocks this month and they were very easy to follow, though they did take a bit of time.  I probably spent close to two hours making this block.

I enjoyed making the block so much I made a 2nd one using a rainbow of 30's reproduction.  So fun!

July Block for Kristi

I really like this block and how it turned out.  I sorted through my scraps to find some of my favorites.  It came out to be 11x11 but after poking around on the Narcoleptic in the Cupboard blog I found that this is the correct dimensions for this block so I didn't feel too bad after! Hope you like it!

Hive #1 Kristy's Block

I'm not sure what is up with my camera but I can assure you this picture looks washed out from what the colors actually look like.  They are a lot brighter than this looks!

I just sort of did my own thing, I hope ya like it. :D

Jennifer's Hive #3 blocks

I think this was the first time I've actually made these blocks! Hope you like them!

July Hive 1 Stained Block

I was excited to find out we would be making a stained block for Kristylou!

This is the first block I made :)  However it measures 11 x 11,not 11 x 12.  So I made another one.....

The problem is that the second one also came out at 11 x 11??  I can not figure what it is that I am doing wrong.  So,hope you can use these Kristylou, they will be heading your way by the weekend.  Sorry that they are not the correct size :(

July Block for Hive #4

Here are my two July blocks for Hive #4 side by side. This was a great block. Although, I just don't understand taking the tedious amount of time to press quilt seams open. Maybe I'm just too old or too lazy. LOL.

Thanks for sharing this great tutorial with us.

Hive 3 Block for Jennifer

Here is your block Jennifer. The picture is a little bright, but the lighter blocks are more beige than white, so I hope this works. Turns out I don't have too many browns in my stash. Thanks for this block tutorial. The best thing about this Bee is getting the opportunity to make blocks that I have not made before. This one was great and I can see making more!

Hive #2 July Block for Jennie..

Jennie,
This is was a fun block, thank you for choosing it.
I had a little trouble with getting the chevron going in the correct direction,
- you can read about it here
This is going to be a great looking quilt!!

Hive #2 July block

Stained for Hive #1

This block came together quite easily - half the coloured pieces were from scrap, even. Though I do not have enough scraps to start on my own Stained quilt yet...
Stash Bee July
Into the mail tomorrow it goes!

For Sara, Hive 1

Oh Sara, I'm done with your blocks and would like to let you know that they are in the mail.

I have wanted to have a bash at this quilt for sooooooo long!!  It's on my to-do list.

blocks for Jennifer

Nothing fancy in the photography department, but here are my July blocks for Jennifer.  I mailed them earlier this week...and then realized that I was so focused on finding an envelope to fit them in, that I forgot to sign them.  Oops!  I hope you like them, JS.

Hive #4 July block...

Hi Jess,

Ta da your blocks are done,  I made them both the same.  This was a challenging block to square up the individual blocks!   Hope you like the colors.  I will mail them out tomorrow.
I received your blocks today, thank you they're perfect!

Hive #1 for Kristy

Blocks for June - Hive 2

Laurel, I am very sorry this has taken me so long to post. June was a nightmare for being busy.

I hope you like them, the blocks were sent I hope you have them by now.
Again sorry this took so long, Judy

Hive #2 July

Ok, I cheated! I asked Jennie weeks ago which block she will be making. I did not want to miss a month and I am going home tonight. So Jennie told me in advance what she will be making and I hope she already received the block

Is is not as beautiful as the one from Jennie, but I like it! Just to tell you: take care on the chevron. You can read what I did July block. Hope you all have fun and a lovely summer :)

Sorry it's late, I found this month really hard! I cannot draw to save my life and it took a while to pin down the shapes... Hope it's okay...

Hive 2 July Block :: Scrappy String Star

For my block I'd like everyone to make my string scrappy star block {find the tutorial here} using bright colors and a few selvages {I'd prefer at least 2 per block, but would love to see more!}, I wrote a little tutorial about using the selvages and making the chevrons here.  The center star should be Moda Bella Ruby Ice {fat quarters available herehere}.

Oh, and I'd love a 4" siggy square too!

July BLock for Hive 4

First up I'd like to apologise for being so absent from this bee so far - I've had a really hard few months and haven't had much time (or energy) for sewing. Thank you all for bearing with me!

For my blocks for July, I've decided to ask you all to make a block that I designed for Quiltjane's Desperate Housewives Quilt. It's called a woven chevron block and the tutorial can be found here.

In terms of colours I'd like them to be similar to the colours in the block I made - Kona Ash for the background, and then print fabrics similar to Kona Surf and Kona Orange. I am quite happy if you incorporate some solids into it, but I'd like some prints there as well if possible.

If everyone could please make two blocks (they should be 8.5" unfinished) that would be brilliant!

Any questions, please just shoot me an email and I'll get back to you asap!

xx Jess

Hive 2 June Block

Ok so I actually finished this block last Friday but I forgot to post pictures.  It's already on the way to Laurel.  I really struggled with this block.  I had a hard time deciding on shapes and I'm not really great at 3D objects.  So, I did my best and I hope it's ok.

Vicki

P.S. I know my mom (Judy) and Mary both finished their blocks too.  Mom just hasn't had a lot of time for posting this month.  She cares for my step dad full time due to a massive stroke.  I hope you like them Laurel!

Geometric Blocks

Here are the two blocks I'm sending off for June...I finished the first one in plenty of time, but didn't realize that regular applique wasn't going to work!  So, I finally finished hand stitching the shapes from the second block to the black fabric.  I'm going to send both in case Laurel can salvage the first one!

Hive #4 Blocks

So sorry these are late!  I had them done Friday and was about to post them and then I accidentally let a sprinkler spray into our upstairs bedroom window all over our hardwood floors for an hour and  half and realized it right before I was about to walk out the door to go out of town for the weekend.  So I had to clean that up instead of post!

These blocks were so fun to make!

Hive 3 July block

I decided to have a disappearing nine-patch block for my month.  This is one of the blocks that I fall back on when I want something easy that I don't have to think to much about.  I've also always wanted a pink and brown quilt but have never made myself one so I thought this would be the perfect pink and brown project.

All the squares are cut 5".  You will need 4 pink squares, 4 tan-beige squares, and 1 brown square.  I'm not at all fussy you can use prints, solids, anything you want.  Lay the squares out in a nine-patch layout with the brown square in the center and the pink squares in the corners.

Sew the squares in three rows.  Two rows of pink-tan-pink and one row of tan-brown-tan.  Then sew the three rows together to make a block.

Cut the block in half top to bottom and side to side.  You can measure 2 1/4" from the seams.

Now the block will be 4 squares.

Flip two kitty corner blocks halfway so that you have alternating small brown squares and large pink squares in the center.

Sew the pairs of squares back together.  (mine are flipped in this picture from the last one)  Then sew the two halves.

Now you have a completed disappearing nine patch block.  The block should finish at 13 1/2".

I hope this will be an easy and fun block for everyone to make.  I've always enjoyed them.  I would like to request that instead of making siggy blocks as well that you just sign the nine patch block on the lighter tan pieces.  Thank you all in advance and if you have any questions feel free to ask.
